Support Sincere Seekers by Supporting Kiva

There are several ways for anyone wishing to help The Kiva Connection grow stronger and always available for sincere seekers...Check 'em out!

Reprising Opera

Opera...getting stronger every day!
Our girl is improving all the time, thanks to YOUR support!
The Kiva Connection (aka "The Kiva Project") has a two year old female Alpaca cloaked in a beautiful super-pale silver fleece, in long-term recovery from a rare and severe stroke.  On March 16th, 2010, at the age of 16 months, she was found down on her side, neck bent back over her back, on a pasture hillside.  She could not walk or get up, but a few hours later would eat grain and take a little water.  With help she could be lifted to her feet and stand with support for a few minutes.  Cornell University donated thorough diagnostics to help determine what, exactly, was wrong with her and what might have happened.  It was determined that a stroke, an assault to the back part of her brain, is the cause of her present condition.

One month later, after much physical therapy and hard work on her part, Opera became able to stand up on her own, walk, trot a bit, get herself down to the ground and hold her head up for limited periods of time and in limited positions.  Opera required physical therapy no fewer than three times per day and almost hourly supervision for many weeks.  She's presently undergoing some periodic alternative forms of treatment, including chiropractic, acupuncture and acupressure care.  Opera originally could not share quarters, paddock or yards with other alpacas or most any other farm animal 20 lb.s or larger, as they could have easily hurt her unintentionally, or intentionally if they felt she was a threat to the safety of the group of animals as a whole. Now, she is strong enough to "run" with a small group of peers...other female alpacas and their crias!

Opera is a true hero and has worked extremely hard to have come to the recovery level she has.  Our hope is that this trend continues as she receives on-going special care and treatments.  Your support for such additional help is most appreciated.  Opera is a soul that works very hard to help herself...Let us continue to do all we can to help her!
Opera is still quite vulnerable,  so her remaining long-term with the Kiva Connection is probably the best for her.  If you would like to help Opera with a donation or a monthly Sponsorship, your funds will work with the donations of others toward covering her special care needs, therapies and support implements, such as the medical tape required for her latest treatment plan, regular veterinary checkups with Cornell, and for her occasional acupuncture and acupressure treatments.

Can you help?  If so, please utilize our PayPal button on this page, or fill out the form below, and mail your check to: The Kiva Project, Attention  "Supporting Opera" c/o Wren Owens, Moon Ivy Hill, 4526 Olmstead Road, Woodhull, NY  14898.  THANK YOU!
KIVA OWNS OTHER SPECIAL ANIMALS THAT PROVIDE THEIR LOVE GENEROUSLY!

The Kiva Connection resides on "Moon Ivy Hill," and rents approximately 60 of the 120 privately owned acres for a very modest fee per month plus "in kind" care of those acres.   Kiva also owns many of the animals that reside on the land and occupy the barns and pastures, as part of its animal therapy opportunities provided Kiva's sincere seekers on retreat for personal recovery and growth.

Kiva owns one full sized mature female pig (Angel, available for Sponsorship), a pygmy goat (Patience, also available for Sponsorship), two donkeys (Bandana Belle Haven and Highup Jasmine - Sponsorship available), three horses (Tyee, Stardust and Shaman - each available for Sponsorship) and several Alpacas!  Opera (above on this page) is owned by Kiva, as is Ms. Millie...she is the companion and guard alpaca, so neither of these two are available for Adoption, but several other Kiva alpacas ARE.  Inquire if this is of interest to you and check out our "Adoption" page!  All that is involved is an applicant interview, an adoption contract and payment of the associated adoption fee(s).

Won't you, please, help Kiva's animals with your charitable donation and/or Sponsorship today?  Let us know if you want to be sure the funds go to a specific animal or animals and we will be sure that happens and send you updates, too!  You may use our PayPal button here on this website, OR mail your contribution to:

Close-Knit Alpacas' Support

C-K shares 5-10% of the sale price for any alpaca or alpaca product sold during its once-per-week online alpaca sale where people can "Make an Offer Monday!" for the alpaca or alpaca product of their choice off the Close-Knit sales list on Monday of each week!

The "first best offer in wins," so those who send in the best offer first, via email or fax on MOM's official Offer Form, and one that is accepted, gets to make that purchase at their price and terms.

This original, web-based event has been going on since Labor Day of 2006 and Kiva is most grateful for the support from Close-Knit.  To date, these contributions have helped keep the trails and ponds maintained, for which we are very grateful.

Visit www.CloseKnitAlpacas.com to learn all about alpacas, and to check out "Make an Offer Monday!"  You'll be so glad you did!

Support Kiva's Animal Friends

Perhaps you'd like to offer your services, skills, talent(s) or materials?  The following "Dream Projects" will become realities with the right resources.  See if any "speak" to you...

The Sanctuary - an octogonal or round, yurt-type structure planned for a small clearing in the Eastern Forest where five main trails all intersect (Prayer Path, Trail of Empathy, etc).  This would be a place for personal meditation, quiet prayer and/or worship service(s).  The size best suited for the space is 14' -16' across.  Estimated budget/expenses: $3000

The Kiosk - a small cabin at Moon Ivy Hill where visitors may purchase items helpful when hiking or camping, as well as educational materials, our field guide, and other merchandise to benefit The Kiva Connection.  The building is up, but it needs to be finished inside, have a solar power system installed for the little bit of power needed for this structure, and a small deck needs to be built in front of it with two steps leading up.  Estimated budget/expenses: $1000

The Saw Mill Community Bldg. - There is an authentic sawmill building - 54' x 33' - at Moon Ivy Hill, on the opposite side of the road from the main house and barn.  We would like to convert this into a space for art classes, movement and group gatherings, an on-site administrative office, storage rooms for art supplies and works in progress, and a small recording studio.  Our intention is to use alternative power systems, and we're presently looking into wind generated power for it, as we get much of that on the hill.  Estimated budget/expenses: $45,000 - $95,000 (depending on ultimate design, labor and power systems)

The Black Bear Bunkhouse - There is a level spot, with it's own private little pond, in the West Woods, just waiting for a two-story rustic bunkhouse to be built there.  This structure would accommodate groups of over-night visitors for extended weekend or week-long programs.  We already have a composting privy built there, a large and safe firepit, and some Adirondack style outdoor furniture placed up there, so for now we pitch tents when necessary.  We envision this space being utilized primarily for youth activities and camps.  The views from this spot are unmatched anywhere on Moon Ivy Hill!  We have many Amish carpenters and builders in our area whom we could hire relatively inexpensively, if we don't have volunteer help, to build it. Estimated budget/expenses:  $25,000

The Moon Lodge - This would be a small cabin built specifically for women only, and for only those women honoring their moon-times in solitude or with other women also in their moon-time.  It is planned for the Eastern Forest, southern quadrant and would have two sleeping lofts on opposite ends, with a centrally placed woodstove for heat.  Water would be by gravity feed and receptacles. Estimated budget/expenses: $2000

The Artist's Hermitage - This small structure would provide a space for any artist experiencing any creative "blocks," and serve as a place to find new inspiration, do some deep inner searching and yet have at hand the tools and facility space for diving right into their art and creating new works.  We would like to place this little hermitage over-looking Bittern Beauty pond, and where the original house used to be when Woodhull's much-loved and missed Big Hank used to live at Moon Ivy Hill.  Estimated budget/expenses: $3000 - $5000

Ms. Kiva's Cabin - The cabin is already built and situated behind The Little Magic Forest, overlooking both Beaver and the Medicine Wheel ponds.  It is 12' x 24' with a small loft, a composting privy and a small woodstove.  This is where field biology programs, the Nature Connection, and other Kiva activities work out of.  We would like to finish this structure with a wall of enclosable upper cabinets and a long counter underneath built on the outside, south wall of the cabin...specifically for solar powered microscopes and other class materials.  Opposite that, going off the existing 8' deck and into a small rise of earth, we would like to build a small greenhouse to complete the project and offer visitors a well-rounded nature exploration experience.  Estimated budget/expenses: $1500 for lab and $700 for greenhouse.
